August 09 Livejournal NOW!I have decided to switched over to http://papaphysix.livejournal.com as MSn spaces has messed up my blog settings! :( so please relink me! :) August 06 English Poem CompetitionThere is recently a contest among the teachers for teachers' day where we are supposed to compose a poem based on the title (How I can live a full life with passion and love for others) and we are limited to 150 to 200 words!
I decided to try it out (and prove that a science person can do art as well!?) and of cos to pen down my experiences...
Here's my entry: (what do you think of my chances of winning!? :P)
How I can live a full life with passion and love for others
How do I get started? Questions are added to aid in understanding the poem
If it even begins with me at all Then it’s a spontaneous response to an upward call Of living a life of passion and love Descending on others like a dove
What do I need to understand before I can live such a life?
It’s not a single encounter that settles all But a lifelong journey through many walls Serving all and fighting hard, we’re in the business of mending hearts
Bouncing up just like a ball No matter how hard you may fall For there are others who need you more That’s the life worth living for!
What do I need to possess to live such a life?
A pair of eyes with tears to spare To connect with them and show our care To see their faces, how they fare
A pair of ears like an open pore All ready to absorb and hear it all Attentive to help whenever they call
A sincere heart that opens doors To unlock those burdens they “adore” To unleash their potential and make them soar!
What do I hope for when I choose to live such a life?
At the end of the day, it’s not the rewards that matters more But looking back and knowing that Your life is full of no regrets

Composed by Daniel Chow (All Rights Reserved 2006 :) August 01 Life...Light of Hope (saw this at NUH children ward…)
With each new day, from strength to strength these children grow, Seeing the light that extinguishes all pain and sorrow; It is the light you have lit that will always glow, To show them the way, for a brighter tomorrow.
Afterthoughts:
Wanted to blog about all the fun(ny) things that happened over the weekend but my visit to NUH today set me to another tone of mood… for the first time in my life, I got down on my knees to pray for a student of mine: someone who is usually so bubbly and alive but now critically ill in the ICU, where her fate is determined within the next 48 hours… seeing all the tubes inserted into her just brought tears to my eyes… I just can’t hold them back… It’s such a sorrowful sight to behold… it’s beyond what words can say… but thankfully, that single drop of tear that I caught in her eyes after what I told her brought comfort that she knows I and the rest of the class is there with her, supporting her…
a moment of impulse can have such a drastic effect… life is just so fragile… which means that we must all the more cherish what we have and stop complaining about the how “sad” our lives can be simply bcos of the lack of materialistic stuff or stress from work or studies or minor conflicts over relationships or missing a chance to have fun or something exciting… life, I guess, is much more than these… life, I believe, is beyond what your eyes can see, what your ears will hear, even beyond what your heart can feel… it is a miraculous source of energy that springs so naturally after a cold and dreadful winter but yet leave so quietly and easily when it is not carefully taken care of… God knows how life all started and when it will reach the end in a living person… I can only humble myself and say that I am but a mortal… life don’t lies in my hands… I am simply grateful that I am alive today…
While the rest folded paper cranes to wish her luck for her battle, I was inspired to make her a paper ball instead… why? Cos I wanted to tell her this:
Be like a ball! Even though you are struck down, you will bounce up again! The harder the force to pin you down, the greater you will re-bounce back to life!
Never say die… :)
July 31 My Replies to StuffI reali reali hate my life u noe. I don’t find any point in living in this world at all.
If you really dislike your current way of life, then take positive steps to make it better! No one is responsible for your life. Only you are! Decide to live your life happily and no one can stop you from it! :)
Before you say goodbye, think about the consequences of leaving! Committing suicide is not the easiest way out! In fact, it is the most selfish and irresponsible act! You will end up hurting the hearts of many (especially your parents and your friends) and your unresolved problems will now be carried forward to them! There is no problem in this world that is too big to handle. In fact, the solution is already there and it’s none other than you! You are created with much more resilience and strength than what you can ever imagine! You have the power to decide what to do with your situations and if you are willing to change yourself to deal with the situations, you will be stronger than before!
I was told about a girl who was recently diagnosed with brain tumour. She has only a few months to live and her parents are on the verge of divorce. She broke down shortly after receiving such traumatizing news… but she DECIDED to do something about it instead of sulking about her life! If you see her recently, you will never be able to tell that she only has a few months left to live! She is always so cheerful and happy! She even took part in a talent performance competition and made it to the finals! The song she chose to sing: Fighter!
Be a fighter today and live your life to the fullest! The only person who can stop you from doing it is yourself! The only person who can help you to do it is also YOURSELF!
P/S: You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14) to live a life that is GREAT! :)
Life is so unfair! I did not get the chance to be selected for the event! When I see how much my friends enjoyed themselves, I felt so miserable…
Life is never fair but it’s always square! I mean it! We don’t get to choose the family we are in, the way we look physically and maybe the in-born talents that we have! But we are given the choice or power to decide whether we are willing to accept things we cannot change and make the best out of it! (of course, if you are really so hard for it, you can change family or go for plastic surgery but remember that these are only superficial solutions!) The attitude you have, the talents and skills that you acquired, the friends that you make, the kind of influence that you have on others and how others have on you eventually is all up to you! That is square cos there is no other way in life to it (just like there is no other way to define a square that can only have 4 corners!)
As for those great events or camps or trips that people seem to have the privileges to go while you may not, please remember that it is the daily encounters, strength and encouragements that you draw from yourself, your friends and God that really make you strong and keeps you going! Do you still remember the most inspiring or enjoyable camp/trip/event that you last went to? How much of that do you still remember? How much of it still has an impact to you? Not much I guess… There is not many camp/trip/event that really make or break your life! Everything still boils down to what you do with each day! Yesterday may be lousy but it should not influence you to live the same old day today! Each day is like a fresh sheet of paper given by God to start afresh and to embark on a new chapter in your life!
Treasure each day! :)
